Kibaki sees off Sevens team to World Cup in Dubai

Kenya Rugby Football Union (KRFU) chairman Richard Omwela has vowed to make sure the Sevens team is well rewarded for their efforts in Adelaide.
The team reached their first ever final in the IRB circuit and Omwela said he will make good his promise to have the players rewarded.
"I think it is safe to say that the KRFU is officially bankrupt, because we will have to break the bank to reward Ayimba and his boys," Omwela joked.
He, however, did not disclose the exact figures of cash awards that the players are expected to get.
"In fact I think we will have to go door to door to every fan and ask for like a thousand shillings so that we can make even," he continued with a hearty laugh.
Sevens team
The Sevens team is expected to get the usual bonus from the Union as well as bonuses from the sponsors Virgin Atlantic, and lately the Government had also stepped in and vowed to reward the team like other athletes if they were to achieve such accomplishments.
"What the boys have achieved is completely wonderful, it was more than fantastic as it was also historic, especially as we are one of the only two teams who play in the circuit and are still amateur, the other being Argentina," said Omwela.
South Africa
"We have been able to achieve such a huge feat with very limited resources. If you compare us to a team like South Africa they were given an unlimited budget and we were still able to give them a run for their money."
"As matter of fact to me the boys conquered the world it doesn’t really matter what the scores says, because if you saw how the boys played and the crowd that was behind them, it was simply out of this world." The chairman added.
He said Kenyans has proved to the world that reaching the World Cup was not a fluke.
"I am sure there will be more of what we saw today in future as the team is still growing, and we will completely back the team," he concluded.
Kenya lost 22-7 to South Africa in the final Sunday.
