Over 60 players turned up during player recruitment by former Kenyan Premier League side Imara (Maragoli United) at Nairobi Technical grounds on Tuesday.

The exercise runs for two weeks after which a team of 25 will be selected for the Nationwide League. Imara were promoted to the Nationwide League after bagging 55 points for the runners-up slot in the Nairobi Super league last season.

Meanwhile, an interim office was named to run the club pending elections. The officials are Haman Indangasi (chairman), Hanington Mulamba (vice-chairman), Evans Mudanya (secretary), Edward Kedogo (organising treasurer), Mark Amendi (treasurer) and Hagai Mulenya (coach).

Others are Mike Amata, Absalom Majanga, Wycliff Shireshi and Nebat Adeya who will be in charge of the technical services.

The officials said plans were under way for a relaunch next month where the club will unveil an official website, corporate logo, merchandise and a fundraiser.

“We want to bring back the spirit of Maragoli United which was the first team in Kenya to play in Europe. And we are targeting promotion to the Premier League next year,” Mulenya said.

Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi is expected to grace the launching ceremony.
