The Kenya National Sports Council (KNSC) top brass are trooping back to their offices in tomorrow’s elections.

No one had challenged the top three officials by close of nomination last Friday.

In what is becoming a template for elections in sports associations, nominations are closed even before the public is notified. National Olympic Committee poll caused so much furore last month.

Long-serving KNSC Chairman, Joshua Okuthe, vice- chairman, Nderitu Gekaria and treasurer, Charles Nyaberi, are home and dry for another four-year term.

But members Henry Shihemi and Vanraj Sarvaiya will have to fight against five contestants to get the vote from 50-plus affiliates.

Ronald Milare of Paralympics and wheelchair basketball, Shadrack of judo, Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) treasurer, Kenneth Tonui, Kenyas Table Tennis Association (KTTA) secretary, Andrew Mudibo and The Association of Kenya Women in Sports’ Milka Omenda have lined up to get the two slots.

Elections will start at 3pm at the KNSC boardroom at the Nyayo National Stadium.

After elections, KNSC co-ops five members from key stakeholders and marginalised associations. The current co-opted members are Athletics Kenya secretary, David Okeyo, Njeri Onyango of the lawn tennis association, Anthony Kariuki of the wrestling body, former Kenya Basketball Federation chairman, Maurice Aluanga, and Japheth Musee of the Kenya Paralympics body.

The Central Executive Committee is completed with the three minister’s appointees. The outgoing appointees are Isaac Kalua, Isaack O. Okoth and Sherry Bailey.
