Talent search: Veteran coaches sounded out

Three former Harambee Stars coaches have been named in an 11-man panel to scout for the best talent that will make up the 2009 Copa Coca-Cola dream team.

The trio, Mohammed Kheri, Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee and Chris Makhoha will be part of nine other scouts expected to advise on the best players at each level, selected to move forward.

Speaking during the unveiling of the scouts yesterday, Coca-cola Senior Public Affairs and Government Relations Manager, Nelson Githinji said the panel was picked because of individual contribution in football currently and in the past.

“The talent scouts will attend regional games to be held countrywide, starting with Thika and Nyeri this weekend. They will advise on the best talent to be included in the teams to play at the tournament’s finals where the Copa Coca-Cola 2009 Dream Team will be selected,” said Githinji.

The members of the panel include Football Kenya Limited (FKL) technical director Patrick Naggi, former Stars team manager Sammy Nyongesa, James Omondi, Richard Kanyi, Noordin Mohammed, Vince Ombiji and Peter Mansa.

This year’s edition of the tournament is will bring together 256 teams made of under-17 players countrywide.

The tournament will begin with play-offs to shortlist teams that will make it to the regional competition, with 16 teams qualifying per region. The teams will proceed to play three rounds at the regional level to get one team. The winning team will travel to South Africa for an international football camp to undergo world-class training and coaching.
