Denning Maina of Brookhouse School attained triple A qualifying time in style winning the over-16 boys’ 50m breaststroke at the Barclays Bank swimming gala.

The 17-year-old returned 36.77 seconds to erase the previous mark of 40.33 that was set by Kirubi Kariuki of Brookhouse two years ago.

This race was hotly contested with all the top seven swimmers finishing inside the meet record time.

Shahid Velji of Nairobi Academy was second in 38.93 followed by Kelvin Waweru of Dolphines (39.28) and Brookshine Maina Wanjau (39.30).

Gaurav Kotecha of Braeburn qualified in the boys’ 10-11 50m breast after he won the race in 49.95.

Simran Billing won girls’ under-9 200m individual medley in 4:10.41 but the time was not good enough to earn her promotion to the next level.
