Air Kenya spreads its wings to South Coast
By Ngumbao Kithi
Diani, which was recently named a resort city, has received a major boost with the entry of Air Kenya flights to South Coast.
The first plane carrying tourism industry stakeholders and other dignitaries touched down at the newly refurbished airport last week. The introduction of the flight is a big relief to passengers who have often had to contend with the inefficient and sometimes nightmarish ferry transport.
Domestic Tourism
The flight is expected to boost the South Coast as a tourist destination. The inclusion of Diani Beach Service in Air Kenya brings to 11 the number of destinations on the company’s circuit.
Apart from the flight to the sunny sandy beaches at the Coast, the company provides service charters and scheduled flights to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
Air Kenya expects the launch to grow the domestic industry and promote the Coast as a tourism destination. The flights at Diani and the nearby Moi International Airport enhance Mombasa’s suitability as a tourist destination in the region as it allows visitors from upcountry to fly directly to the South Coast for business or holiday without much delay.
