Kenya’s captain Humphrey Kayange has been named as one of the ‘Magnificent Sevens’ players in the Rugby World Cup Sevens.
His brother, Collins Injera, the joint top try scorer in the IRB Sevens World Series makes it among the ‘players to watch’ at the fifth Rugby World Cup Sevens.
Kayange who leads Kenya’s assault for the RWC Sevens joins Isoa Damudamu (England), Victor Vito (New Zealand), Frankie Horne, Julien Malzieu (France), Todd Clever (USA) and Ofisa Treviranus (Samoa) in a list named by the tournament’s website.
Kayange is noted for his speed, work rate, ball retention and a knack for scoring crucial tries. The Kenyan captain also scores high on charisma and eloquence off the pitch.
Kayange has already proved his worth to Kenya with tries over England and Fiji and he boasts of the most assists in the team.
The 6ft captain is a marvelous playmaker and is known to lead his team from the front with a very physical but graceful approach to the game.
The Sevens captain traded his position as a centre for a forward to make way for former captain Innocent Simiyu, and has played the role well, proving his multi-talented skills in both facets of the game. In the event’s brochure, Injera was one of the players expected to set ‘The Sevens’ alight in the three days of action packed rugby. Other players in the same league are Ben Gollings (England), Robert Ebersohn (South Africa), Victor Vito (New Zealand), Santiago Gomez Cora (Argentina), Luke Morahan (Australia), Uale Mai (Samoa) and Sosene Anesi (New Zealand).
Injera who has twenty tries in the IRB circuit from the first four legs garnered five instrumental tries in the just concluded world cup to set his name as one of the most lethal wingers of his generation.
