A middle-aged man pleaded guilty to obstructing police officers at work by hurling stones at them.Thomas Mburu Kiarie admitted throwing stones at Administration Police officers on October 5, therefore, preventing them from arresting a suspect.

The APs had been on patrol in Kagunduini market, Murang’a South District when they encountered two men fighting. The officers intervened but their efforts to arrest the duo were thwarted by the accused who started hurling stones at them. In the process, the fighting men escaped.

Thika Senior Resident Magistrate, Liz Gicheha remanded him to await the ruling.

Habitual robber jailed for 20 years

A man described by a Kisii court as a habitual offender will serve 20 years for robbery.
Peter Nyabate faced two counts of robbery with violence but was found guilty of a lesser offence of robbery by Kisii Chief Magistrate Maxwell Gicheru.

Nyabate had robbed Eunice Kwamboka Sh500 and threatened to use violence on her on March 21 in Bonchari. He also robbed Moraa Onsare of Sh50 and threatened to beat her.
He denied the two counts of robbery with violence.

However, Gicheru found him guilty of a lesser offences of robbery and sentenced him to 10 years in jail for each offence. The sentences will run concurrently.
"He does not seem to have learnt from previous convictions. He deserved a custodial sentence because he is a habitual offender," ruled Gicheru.

In 1998 he was convicted of breaking into a house and stealing and jailed for 12 months. In 2001, he was sentenced for three years and three strokes of cane for a similar offence.
And in 2004, he was sentenced to two years imprisonment for breaking into a house and stealing.
