More Kenyans join Standard Group to end famine

A schoolgirl, teachers and a church in the North Rift have contributed foodstuff worth Sh700,000 to the ‘Tuugane Tuokoe Maisha’ campaign.

Businessmen in Kitale also contributed foodstuff worth Sh600,000 to assist starving people in West Pokot District.

In Eldoret, Ms Sally Kemboi, a Form Four student at Kamagut Secondary School and her parents Emily and Stanley Kemboi, donated ten bags of wheat.

Teachers and students of Arnesen’s High School, where thousands of displaced families lived until they were relocated, also banked Sh10,000 to the kitty’s account.

Church gives flour

Members of Worldwide Full Gospel Churches of Kenya in Eldoret contributed 21 bales of flour to Standard Group.

The food was handed over to Kenya Red Cross Society to deliver.

A hundred bags of maize, rice, maize flour, sugar and cooking oil was donated by Khetia Drapers, Eden Rock Insurance brokers and ECO Bank in Kitale.

The donation in Kitale was handed over to Ms Tegla Loroupe’s ‘Pamoja Tupunguze Njaa Pokot’ (PTNP).

The business community led by Mr Mahindra Khetia gave the food aid to the organisation’s chairman, Mr Zack Nderitu.

Pitched tent

PTNP officials and those from the Provincial Administration in West Pokot District pitched tent at Chepareria to distribute the relief to vulnerable people.

Last month, two people died of hunger-related diseases at Chepkobe location in Chepareria Division.

PTNP publicity chairperson Kevina Loyatum said more than 2,300 people had benefited from the food donation.

West Pokot DC John Elung’ata thanked the business community and media in Kitale for the donation.

The DC urged other organisations to support the Government’s commitment to provide relief food to vulnerable people.
