KCS donates another Sh500,000

The hand that gives is more blessed than the receiving one and when you choose to be charitable do it to the end.

Kenya Charity Sweepstake (KCS) has donated an additional Sh500,000 to the ‘Mercy Train’ initiative, towards feeding more than 10 million starving Kenyans.

Yesterday, KCS head of sales and marketing, Mr Peter Njoroge said, they felt the need to donate more.

"We were inspired and touched by what the Standard Group and other corporate partners are doing through this initiative and decided to donate Sh500,000 more," said Mr Njoroge.

In March, KCS donated Sh500,000 to the initiative and with yesterday’s additional donation, their total contribution stands at Sh1 million.

Njoroge said in its 45-year existence, KCS has worked towards eradicating illiteracy, poverty and diseases.

"In the last 10 years we have donated more than Sh500 million to worthy causes. In deciding where to give funds, KCS places emphasis on education, health and emergency relief," he said.

While receiving the donation, the Standard Group Assistant Director, legal and human resources, Ms Nelly Matheka lauded KCS for their contribution. "On behalf of the Standard Group and our partners in this initiative, we thank KCS for their donation. It is a grand gesture coming a second time and we assure them this contribution will go a long way in helping those in need," she said.

The Standard Group and about 20 corporate partners launched an initiative dubbed, ‘Tuungane Tuokoe Maisha’ to collect money and food to help starving Kenyans.

Awesome support

Since the launch, various organisations, including schools have contributed towards the ‘Mercy Train. To date, the contributions stand at approximately Sh19.5 million.

KCS Public Relations Assistant Elizabeth Kariuki urged to Kenyans to continue buying charity sweepstake tickets.

"That little amount you spend in our kiosks, amounts to a lot of money, and it is such funds that go towards worthy causes," she said.
